Logitech MX Master 4

The best scroll wheel anyone has shipped, attached to a mouse with enough controls to run an application without touching the keyboard.

Logitech MX Master 4

What it is

Logitech’s flagship productivity mouse, launched in autumn 2025. This is the Mac edition. The sculpt is the familiar MX Master shape — right-handed, high-backed, thumb rest — with an 8,000 DPI sensor that will track on glass, the MagSpeed electromagnetic scroll wheel, a horizontal thumb wheel, and, new to the 4, a haptic motor in the shell and an on-screen Actions Ring you summon with the thumb button. Up to 70 days per charge; a one-minute charge is good for about three hours. USB-C. Roughly 150 grams. $119.99.

Why it’s on this list

The MagSpeed wheel is still the best implementation of a scroll wheel anyone has shipped: it ratchets for precision and free-spins through a thousand-line file with a single flick. Add the horizontal thumb wheel and you can move through a timeline, a wide spreadsheet, or a code editor without your hand leaving the mouse. If you work at a screen all day, that is not a gimmick — it is the difference between working and reaching.

The haptics are the new argument, and it is a modest one. A small tick under the palm when you cross a gesture boundary or open the Actions Ring. It makes the mouse feel like it is answering you. It is not a reason to replace a mouse that already works.

What to know before you buy

  • The Mac edition ships without a receiver. Bluetooth only. The standard MX Master 4 includes a USB-C Bolt dongle at the same price. If your machine’s Bluetooth is unreliable, or you want the mouse alive before the OS loads, buy the standard version — or buy the Bolt receiver separately, at around fifteen dollars.
  • The haptics and the Actions Ring need Logi Options+. That is a background application that wants accessibility permissions on macOS. If you will not run that, you are buying an expensive ordinary mouse.
  • Right hand only, and it is big. There is no left-handed version. Small hands and fingertip grips should look at the MX Anywhere 3S instead.
  • It is 150 grams. Nobody should buy this to play a shooter.
  • If you own an MX Master 3S, keep it. Haptics, the Actions Ring, and glass tracking are refinements, not a new tool. The 3S is discounted, excellent, and does the same job.
