What it is

The Besign LSX6N is an aluminum riser that holds a laptop above the desk at an adjustable height and angle. It fits machines from 10 to 15.6 inches, adjusts from roughly 5.6 to 8.6 inches of lift, and is rated to support up to 8.8 pounds. Rubber pads on the arms grip the chassis and keep the finish unmarked. The frame is open, so air moves under the machine instead of pooling against a closed surface — and so a keyboard, a mouse, or a notebook can live in the space underneath.

Why it’s on this list

Posture is not a wellness topic. It is a working condition. A laptop on a desk forces the neck into a permanent downward crane, and hours of that add up in a way you feel in your forties. Raising the screen toward eye level and putting a separate keyboard under your hands solves the problem entirely, and it costs less than a decent dinner.

The reason to choose aluminum over the plastic alternatives is simple: aluminum does not flex when you type. Wobble is what makes cheap stands unusable — you notice it on every keystroke until you take the thing off the desk and put it in a drawer. A stand that does not move is a stand you keep.

What to know before you buy

• It requires an external keyboard and mouse. This is the part people forget. Lift the screen to eye level and the built-in keyboard goes with it, into an unusable position. Budget for the peripherals or the stand does nothing for you.
• The maximum lift is about 8.6 inches. For most people at a standard desk that puts the top of the screen near eye level. If you are tall, or you use a 16 or 17-inch machine, look at a taller riser or a proper monitor arm instead.
• Height is set with an included screw, not a lever. You adjust it once and leave it. If you want to change height several times a day, buy a stand with a quick-release mechanism.
• If you already have an external monitor, skip this. A second screen at the right height does the same job better. This is for people working off the laptop itself.
